Dreamcast Software Development Standards
Dreamcast Software Development Standards/Ver.1.00E
In the following descriptions, the Title Screen is defined as the "Game Start Screen." The period before the START button is pressed at this screen is referred to as "Before Game Start," and the period afterward is called "After Game Start."
Also, the conditions after a game has been started are referred to as "during the main game."
Required: The Title Screen displays the Title Logo, "PRESS START BUTTON" and copyright, unless specified otherwise by contract document or difficulty (such as a movie title) to display the copyright because of lack of space.
For Sega Brand products, if the copyright display is difficult to display on the Title Screen due to lack of space, display it before the Title Screen.
Also for the Sega Brand, display the Sega Logo on the Title Screen as described in 5.2 Sega Logo Display, unless there are any specific reasons not to do so.
If there is not enough space to display both the "PRESS START BUTTON" message and Sega Logo at the same time,
display the Sega Logo first and then "PRESS START BUTTON" in the same place.
(Example: Title Screen for Sega Saturn "Galaxy Force II")
6.1 Title Logo Display
Required: If transition to the next screen is not initiated by user input, display the Title Logo for about two seconds.
Required: (Sega Brand Only) Except for other companies' trademarks, [TM] is always attached to the Title Logo. For other companies' trademarks, follow the instructions in the contract document. If there are no such instructions in a contract document, follow the original indication method.
Required: (Sega Brand Only) Unless specially regulated by contract documents, the following copyright indication is displayed.
"(C) SEGA Enterprises, Ltd., 1998"
(with space characters as shown)
Note: "(C) [Proper Company Name] [Year of First Release]
There are no other guidelines regarding characters and colors. The year of first release is the first year of sales.
However, in cases of business transfer or version remake only (not involving a new version), the year of issue of the original may be displayed alone or followed side-by-side by the year of issue of this software.
"(C) SEGA Enterprises, Ltd., 1995, 1998"
We are told by the Intellectual Property Department that most cases of business transfer involve very few rewriting changes, so we believe it is best to treat them under the copyright of the original. Cases of version remake only involve almost no changes in image appearance, so in most cases they are not treated as new projects. If you suspect any problems with the title, contact that department.
6.3 Advancing to Next Screen
Required: Advancing to the Main Game or Start/Option screen should occur only when the START button is pressed at the Title Screen.
If the START button is not pressed after a specific time interval, as mentioned in 3. Sequences Before Game Start, proceed to the Demo, which is a Title Loop (or display of a logo such as the Sega Sports logo).
