5. Logos

When power is turned on and after the Dreamcast logo (animation) is displayed, the Sega Logo (hard logo) appears. This is called the Sega License Logo, and logos that appear otherwise to indicate that an application is made by Sega are called Sega Logos, as follows.

In the 3rd party case, display of an application logo (equivalent to the Sega Logo for Sega) is optional. However, even in such cases, please strictly observe the conditions of 5.1 Sega License Logo and Microsoft Logo display. Also refer to the following logo display regulations for the Sega Brand.

Note: "Sega Brand" in the following indicates materials created by Sega or products sold with the permission of Sega.

5.1 Sega License Logo and Microsoft Logo display

5.1.1 Dragon OS Environment Development

Required: Applications designed for the Dragon OS environment must display the Sega License Logo immediately after power is turned on, and the Sega License Logo and Microsoft Logo must be displayed at the same time, without any modifications to the data provided by Sega.

(White is coded as C0.)
(It appears lighter when output to a TV screen.)

5.1.2 Non-Dragon OS Environment Development

Required: Immediately after the power is turned on, only the Sega License Logo must be clearly displayed without any modification to the data provided by Sega.

5.2 Sega Logo Display

Required (Sega Brand only): For Sega Brand applications, follow the rules below to display the Sega Logo unless there is a license contract with another company that does not regulate the display of its license by a contract document.

"TM" disply is always displayed with "SEGA".

As long as there is no difficulty in displaying the logo clearly, it is displayed on the Title Screen.

The logo is identical to our company's registered logo. (Refer to the "SEGA Enterprises Visual Identity Manual" issued by the Sega General Affairs Department, for details.)

As long as there is no difficulty in displaying the Sega Logo clearly, it is preceded by "Presented by" when it appears beneath the title, and it is followed by "Presents" if it appears above the title.

If transition to the next screen is not initiated by user input (that is, if user input is not required to start the game), display the final frame (of the registered trademark) for about two seconds.

The logo image size (including the surrounding margins) must be at least 112x40 dots (for a 320x240 Title Screen), or 223x79 dots (for a 640x480 Title Screen).

There are no restrictions on animations.

(This is a sample Title Screen displaying the Sega Logo. However, since this is for the Saturn version, the required "Presented by" is missing. It should appear in actual applications.)

5.3 Other Logos Display

Recommended: (Except when limited by contract agreements), when display of another logo is required, display it in the Title Loop after the Title Screen or Demo (e.g., at the head of the second round of the Title Loop).

5.3.1 Team Logo Display

Required: (Only Sega Brand) When an internal company team logo is displayed, please observe the following rules.

(a) Obtain approval before externally displaying a logo or name of a particular department or team (to apply for trademark registration).

(b) Assuming the approval of (a), the logo and name of the particular department or team are submitted for registration as a company trademark.

(c) After approval, the proper logo and name may be displayed on the game software.

Documents regarding 5.3.1 above and 5.3.2 below are submitted to the head of each department, so refer to them for details.

5.3.2 OEM Logo Display (except manufacture and sales permit licensers)

Required: (Sega Brand Only) Refer to the following rules for displaying OEM company marks other than manufacture and sales permit licensers.

(a) Generally, any display is disallowed.

(b) However, when necessary, logos and other marks of external developers may be displayed pending specific approval.

(c) To avoid complications over property rights (and the difficulties in resolving conflicts that can arise), the names of employees of an OEM company and employees of other companies they may designate may in no case be displayed.

5.3.3 Sega Sports Logo Display

Recommended: (Sega Brand only) When displaying the Sega Sports Logo, as specified in 5.3, it should appear in the Title Loop after the Title Screen or Demo (e.g., at the head of the second round of the Title Loop) (as shown in 3. Sequences Before Game Start).
