18. Processing When the Disk Door is Opened

The following procedures should be observed when the disk door is opened while the main game is running (except in cases where the user has been instructed to open the door to switch discs, as described in 17. Changing Discs for Multi-Disc Applications).

Also, while executing a save (15.4 Executing Save and 15.10 Handling Long Save Times), the rules are a little different, as described in 18.3.

18.1 General Rules When the Disk Door is Opened

Required: Except in the cases of 18.2 and 18.3, the Main Unit Boot ROM Menu (the Multi-Player screen in Saturn) must appear when the user presses the OPEN button on the Main Unit to open the disk door.

E When the disk door is kept open, the Main Unit Boot ROM Menu should immediately appear.

E In the case that the disk door is opened for a instance and the disk is not being accessed, immediate detect of the door opening might be difficult. The Main Unit Boot ROM Menu should be displayed as soon as possible (as soon as the opening is detected).

18.2 Exception When the CD Door is Opened

Required: Games such as "Monster Farm" that require disc switching for data must include a mode that instructs the user to open the CD door, and opening the door must only be possible in that mode. When the mode is finished, a caution message must instruct the user to replace the game disc, and the Disc Check routine must be called after switching discs.

Note: switching discs should be avoided within a game unless absolutely necessary to continue play.

Note: Changing the CD for other reasons (just to change BGM, etc.) is prohibited.

18.3 When the CD Door is Opened during a Save Operation

Required: While a save is executing, access to the main screen of the Main Body Boot ROM menu must be disabled (to avoid destroying the save file). If the user attempts to open the door, jump to the main screen as soon as the save operation has finished.
