Update on my Sonic Adventure (DX) related projects

TLDR: I’m gonna be quiet for a while. I might come back sooner or later (more likely later than sooner), no promises though.

A one-sentence version of this post has been sitting in the drafts section of this site for 4 years. That sentence was: “This year presented several serious challenges in real life, some of which I didn’t anticipate”. Back in 2022 I wanted to say, that’s it, I need to move on from SADX stuff, or at least have a long long break. Yet somehow I pulled through another four years and even managed to release updates for a lot of my projects, including completely new releases such as the Dreamcast Image Builder, or contributions to the SA Tools, such as the new texture library. I’m happy about that.

Today I felt the need to finally publish this post. There has been an increasing number of things in both real and virtual life that I need to dedicate time to, and unfortunately I can only do so much before I’m exhausted physically and mentally, or just lose interest. I also suck at multitasking and I’d rather work on one project at a time than juggle between many completely unrelated things, all while working a full-time job with an increasingly busy schedule. Right now I think I’ve got to the point where I have to pause or quit a few projects to be able to focus on what I really need (or want) to work on at the moment.

With this post, I don’t mean to say I’m quitting SADX modding or SA1 research for good now, or something like that. If you’re into this kind of stuff, especially the more technical things, you know. Once you hit this shit, it won’t ever get out of your system. Once a DX modder, always a DX modder. But, I think I need a break, and I don’t know how long it will be.

In practical terms, this means you aren’t going to see updates for my mods, contributions to the SA Tools from me, or active participation in conversations over on the x-hax server or forums for some time. If I feel like I can come back at a certain point in the future, I absolutely will. In many ways, it’s similar in spirit to this post I made a while back, though it didn’t last long, lol.

I want to make it clear that the only reason I’m making this post is trouble with time management. I’m currently exploring another project, which isn’t Sonic related at all. It might end quickly with a whole lot of nothing (and then you’ll see me back, doing the old and familiar SADX things again), or it might turn into something cool. I don’t know! Also, I genuinely want to take a break from SADX.

Either way, I’d like to thank everyone who has read this blog until this point, and hope to have more exciting SA1/SADX stuff to share with you someday.
